Who we are

Student Support (studentsupport.help) is an independent student initiative providing information and community resources related to student finance in the UK. We are not affiliated with any government body, university, or funding organisation.

What data we collect

• Email address — provided when you create an account or subscribe to our newsletter.
• Display name — chosen by you during sign-up.
• Testimonials — stories you voluntarily submit about your student finance experience.
• Newsletter subscription and segment — your subscription status and the topic segment you selected.

Why we collect it

• Account creation — to let you log in and manage your profile.
• Community — to display your testimonials and attribute them to your display name.
• Newsletter — to send you relevant updates about student finance changes.
• Content moderation — to keep the platform safe and respectful.

How we use AI

We use Anthropic’s Claude Haiku model to automatically moderate user-submitted testimonials. When you submit a testimonial, its text is sent to the Claude Haiku API to check for inappropriate content, spam, or policy violations. No personal account information is sent to the AI — only the text of your submission.

Third-party services

• Supabase — database and authentication, hosted in Ireland (EU).
• Vercel — website hosting and deployment.
• Resend — transactional and newsletter emails.
• Anthropic — AI-powered content moderation (Claude Haiku).

Data retention

Account data (email, display name) is kept for as long as your account exists. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us. Testimonials are considered permanent and public — once approved, they remain visible on the site even if your account is deleted, unless you specifically request their removal.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data.
• Portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
• Object — object to certain processing of your data.

Cookies

We use essential cookies only to maintain your authentication session. These are strictly necessary for the site to function and cannot be disabled. We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to collect anonymised usage data.
